Manager - External Communication - Consulting Firm (10-15 yrs)

- Our client is looking for a Manager of External Relations, to work with the Director of Communications, India, on the development and execution of a communications strategy that builds and shapes the firm's reputation in the country. The successful candidate will also work closely with Organization leaders to develop priority themes and activities with impact. Key functional relationships will include colleagues in India and a network of communications professionals working across Asia.

- The individual will be part of a team responsible for the delivery of digital/intellectual capital of the firm to the world via multiple channels. This role will involve building and executing a communications strategy encompassing brand, marketing, media relations, digital communications, public affairs, issues management, institutional partnerships, and thought leadership.

- This role is part of a team that is essential to protecting, shaping and building the firm's reputation, increasing Organization's relevance by disseminating the firm's knowledge, shaping the debate on the most important topics for clients and influencers, and creating new opportunities for clients to engage with the organization.

This will require a powerful intellect, crisp executive presence, and highly-organized operating style commensurate with the organization's standards of performance.

Key Accountabilities :

This role will support the India office, in :

- Positioning the Company and its work externally in a positive and accurate light.

- Developing a reputation building program, by driving dissemination of the Firm's insight and perspectives on issues of relevance to top managers

- Reputation risk management activities in Asia

- Maintaining and expanding the depth and breadth of the firm's network of relationships with external stakeholders

- Anticipating, identifying and mitigating issues that could affect the organization's image, reputation and market position

- Advising partners on how to communicate the Firm's client value proposition and the narrative on how the Firm is changing to external audience.

- Enhancing office and practice publishing, and supporting the development of India content for the Quarterly newsletter

- Enhancing the organization's reputation through high-level public speaking and publishing opportunities

Responsibilities :

This role will support the Director of Communications, India, in:

- Building reputation primarily through media relations, public relations (including events and conferences), and public affairs activities

- Responding to incoming requests from media, helping to prepare the Firm's response and coordinating as appropriate

- Promoting the Firm's knowledge locally, and leveraging the best content developed

- Maintaining an overview of the organization's exposure to key media and other audiences from the many initiatives, practices and offices of the firm

- Working closely with the organization's publishing editors, partners and practice managers to identify and promote the best content being developed within the region

- Assisting partners in developing networking programs to strengthen relationships with influencers

- Managing relationships with external partner organizations and communication advisors

- Facilitating interaction among the country- and practice-based external communication professionals across Asia

CANDIDATE SPECIFICATION: KEY SELECTION CRITERIA

Ideal Experience :

- 10-15 years- experience of external relations in India, including day-to-day handling of relationships, marketing communications and managing reputation risks.

- A track record of developing reputation-building strategies and executing them for a large, high-profile, global company/brand.

- Strong track record of achievement, with a background spanning aspects including:

- Senior-level external relations and marketing communications strategy development and execution;

- Thought leadership and corporate narrative communication; and

Risk management.

- A track record working as part of a team in building/orchestrating successful, creative, pro-active external relations programmes

- A thorough understanding of external channels - including broadcast and print media, digital and social, face-to-face, events etc.

- Evidence of strong strategic capability, coupled with the pragmatism to act tactically when required

- Experience of working with large, complex organizations, and a proven ability to balance the needs of different stakeholders

- A team builder and collaborator; evidence of an outstanding ability to build strong, durable networks

- An excellent writer / editor
