Working with in-country partners, IRRI develops advanced rice varieties that yield more grain and better withstand pests and disease as well as flooding, drought, and other harmful effects of climate change.

Job Purpose

As per IRRI Tech Transfer strategy and plans, under the direction of the Business Development Senior Manager, the candidate would assist the BDM in delivery of impact and revenue for IRRI by exploring, developing, defining (with initial negotiations) new partnerships with agriculture companies (agri inputs and value chain) and/or social businesses. Finalize reports for submission to the IRRI Tech Transfer team. Establish and develop positive relationship with IRRI colleagues. The candidate would build strong network and market intelligence to identify opportunities.

This position will be based at the New Delhi in IRRI India Office and may only be filled by permanent citizens of India.

Roles and Responsibilities

Purpose

- Assist Senior Manager - Business Development in India in managing portfolio of partners and potential partners.

- First level of planning of India business development strategies.

- Implement the business development program in line with IRRI Tech Transfer strategies for partners and potential partners, under BDM's supervision

- Manages information relevant to the India rice ecosystem, including seed companies, agro-supply, millers, traders etc

- Help communicate IRRI Tech Transfer mission, strategy and achievements to internal stakeholders.

- Contribute to the promotion of best practices for Intellectual Property (IP) Management at IRRI and compliance to the IPCC policies.

Engagement

- Positive engagement with Agri input and value chain Industry and also liaison with IRRI internal stakeholders

- Engage proactively and positively with external stakeholders from seed companies, other Agri input agro-supply, millers, traders. Explore opportunities for IRRI from such engagement and develop strong network.

- Engage positively with IRRI researchers and other colleagues, and develop high quality dialog to understand their needs, in line with IRRI Tech Transfer strategy, procedures and plans.

- Under supervision of BDM, assess IRRI internal needs in view of broader IRRI Tech Transfer priorities for India and develop first level of action plans.

Delivery

- Assist BDM in India in generating more impact and revenue for IRRI

- Applies correct business models, and promotes proposals for IRRI Tech Transfer initiatives with partners and prospects, and assist in moving them through completion

- Explore and attend opportunities (meetings, conference etc) to build strong networking

- Gather market information, perform preliminary market studies to obtain adequate data for analysis

- Analyze data on relevant markets and correlate other information to identify opportunities

- Develop action plans based on identified opportunities with partners and potential partners

- Ensure and communicate reasonable turnaround time on requests from internal/external stakeholders.

- Develop, execute and sustain high level internal reporting/ communication plans

- Write reports for submission to IRRI Tech Transfer team and other internal stakeholders

Qualifications

- Bachelor's degree in Agriculture, Plant Biology with Master in Business Administration (MBA), Management, Business Development or related field with 2 - 3 years of relevant work experience

- Has aptitude for negotiation in an international context

- Has understanding of the agro-supply industry

- High level of analytical skills

Preferred

- Has experience working for an international organization or a multi-national company

- Knowledge of project management

Allowances

- House-Rent Allowance: IRRI provides a house rent allowance of 40% of base pay per month.

- Transport Allowance: A monthly transport allowances are provided to NRS as follows; Job level 6-7: INR 5,000

- Dearness Allowance: One hundred and thirteen percent (113 %) of employee's base pay

- Leave Travel Allowance(LTA): One month base pay per annum on availing minimum 2 days of annual/home leave

- Education Allowance: INR 1,000/- per child per month (limited to 2 children)
